ANC 8A rose from 318 to 351 (+10.4%), making ANC 8A the only commission in Ward 8 experiencing an overall increase in crime. Violent Crime: Total violent crime increased from 66 to 89 (+34.8%), driven primarily by a steep rise in non-fatal armed violence. Property Crime: Total property crime rose slightly from 252 to 262 (+4.0%).
🚨 COMMUNITY SAFETY UPDATE: ANC 8A CRIME STATS 🚨
Neighbors, I am sharing the latest official DC Crime Cards data (Year-To-Date vs. Same Period Last Year):
- Total Incidents: Increased from 318 to 351 (+33 total crimes).
- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon: Spiked from 30 to 56 incidents.
- Theft/Other: Rose from 97 to 138 incidents.
- Homicides: Decreased from 7 down to 2.
- Motor Vehicle Theft: Decreased from 91 down to 64.
While we are encouraged to see homicides and auto thefts drop significantly, ANC 8A remains the ONLY ANC in Ward 8 experiencing an overall increase in total crime.
We cannot ignore the surge in non-fatal violent crime and property theft. I have sent an email to 6D Commander Hickman requesting an operational update on MPD's plan to address this trend, and I will report his response directly back to the community.

I am writing to express concern regarding the latest Year-To-Date DC Crime Cards data for ANC 8A.
While we are pleased to see homicides decline from 7 to 2 and motor vehicle thefts drop from 91 to 64, ANC 8A currently stands out as the only Advisory Neighborhood Commission in Ward 8 with an overall increase in total crime (318 to 351 incidents). This overall rise is driven primarily by a sharp surge in Assaults with a Dangerous Weapon (jumping from 30 to 56) and Theft/Other (rising from 97 to 138).
Our residents deserve a clear understanding of the steps being taken to curtail these numbers. Could you please provide information on:
- What targeted patrols, crime-suppression operations, or resource reallocations are being implemented in ANC 8A to address this overall rise?
- What specific tactics are MPD using to combat the steep rise in Assaults with a Dangerous Weapon in our commission area?
I will be sharing your response with ANC 8A constituents so they remain informed on public safety efforts in our neighborhood.
