I am incredibly excited to announce a major resource coming directly to Fairlawn! Starting this Monday and running for the next two months, we have secured a weekly commitment from the ARC Mobile Unit (Substance Use Disorder Assessment and Referral Center).

🚐 Where & When: Triangle Park (corner of Naylor Road & Minnesota Ave) Every Monday Morning 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM The ARC team, led by Program Manager Ms. Laura Williams, will be on-site to provide critical, life-saving resources, including:

✅ Narcan distribution
✅ HIV testing
✅ Direct connection to substance abuse care programs
✅ Referrals to essential supporting agencies

This is a vital step in supporting our neighbors on a path to a better life forward. I am actively working on securing even more resources to get neighbors simple things like a copy of their ID or birth certificate or social security card that often prevents folks from getting services. Jobs too I’m hoping to get The District of Columbia Department of Employment Services (DOES) Workforce on Wheels (WOW) mobile service unit in the park soon too (more info coming soon)

Addressing the Squatting Crisis Head-On I am turning a laser focus to the issue of squatter-occupied properties. Before the Mayor’s expected legislative announcement on this matter after the break, I am arranging an urgent property tour for members of the DC Council. "Now is the time to influence the upcoming legislation," said Commissioner Tom Donohue. "It’s important that Council sees and hears first-hand from residents and property owners in buildings taken over by squatters. There must be a faster, legal way to reclaim units after break-ins.”

Enforcement like we saw last week on the 1800 block of Q Street SE is not the only answer to addressing squatter take overs of entire blocks. We must face head on getting resources to those who need mental health and drug addiction. Help is on the way starting Monday. By having a long term commitment with resources in Triangle Park those considering help can start fresh by enrolling in programs within these vans!
