🚫 STAND FOR OUR COMMUNITY: ANC 8A VOTES TO OPPOSE HOTEL PROJECT & DEMANDS A 30-DAY EXTENSION! 🚫

Neighbors & Ward 8 Residents,

At July’s 8A01 SMD meeting, I made a firm promise to you and directly to the project leadership: I committed to voting NO on any support or requests for the proposed hotel development near the Frederick Douglass Bridge unless our community was put FIRST through a solid Community Benefits Agreement (CBA).

At this week’s ANC 8A Special Commission meeting, I kept that promise and continued my strong opposition.

A huge thank you and energetic round of applause to our entire Commission for doing the right thing for Ward 8! Led by Chair Jamila White, who brilliantly detailed why this project as presented fell short for our community, and anchored by vital local perspectives like those shared by Commissioner Robin McKinney, our Commission stood united.

I urged the full body to reject the project support—and that is EXACTLY what ANC 8A did! The Commission voted unanimously to OPPOSE the project as presented and formally requested a 30-DAY EXTENSION to force the developer to the table to work out a meaningful Community Benefits Agreement.

Outside developers cannot come into our neighborhood, build major commercial projects, and expect our endorsement without delivering real, direct benefits to our schools, our youth, and our long-time residents. We will continue to demand accountability, transparency, and real community investment for Fairlawn and all of ANC 8A! 👏💪🙌
