Meet Candidate For ANC8A01 Commissioner Tom Donohue

Tom Donohue

ANC Commissioner 8A01 2025-2027

Tom Donohue Jr., 45, is more than just a name on a ballot; he is your neighbor. Born and raised in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, Tom is the proud son of the late Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Thomas M. Donohue, Sr and Catherine Fry..  Tom's Fathert was a decorated 42-year veteran of the Vietnam War and Operation Enduring Freedom. His mother, Catherine Fry, resides in sunny Florida. He is a brother to Charlene, who calls Arizona home, and a doting uncle to three: Daniel, a brave serviceman in the US Army; Elizabeth, a fellow Pennsylvanian; and Matthew, who also resides in Arizona.

Tom's professional journey is as diverse as it is impressive, spanning across multiple sectors. He has held leadership roles in retail management at Walmart, served as a flight attendant at US Airways, and managed districts at Sprint. Today, he is the proud owner of TMD Enterprises, an events photography and videography company, which he operates from his residence in Southeast Washington, DC.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Tom has a deep-seated commitment to community service. He has served on the Commission for LGBT Equity at Penn State University and was selected as the citizen representative during the hiring process of the principal at Boone Elementary.

Tom recognizes his central Pennsylvania raising has sheltered himself from many of life’s real stories from those like Ms. Angela his unhoused neighbor who passed during the winter of while living under 295 to his ignorance of the history and struggles of the black community who now defines him as a minority within his Ward 8 community.

Although he admits he has much more to learn he is thankful for the many lessons over the past decade taught to him by the community, lessons for which he credits making him a better person.

Tom has been a tireless advocate for safer streets around Boone Elementary, successfully campaigning for the installation of speed bumps and stop signs. His persistence also led to the repair of the lighting at the entrance of Anacostia Park, which had been shrouded in darkness for years.
